tbh, im not sure what i should think of that whole stuff... in the end, users could block the domains so they can decide themself (or at least on our place, idk much about mastodon). Technically it wouldnt make a big difference after all.
But if that rumor is true, suddenly ethics are in the game. Does an instance take money? Is federating with an instance that takes money a good thing? Does this have a impact on development? Will it be possible to track down instances which are also taking such deals? Will suddenly gargron get a much bigger shitstorm than before?
Im actually thinking about taking advantages of that. In the last time, instances started to hide their blocks, will this situation lead to that they publish blocks again and be more transparent? I would like to see that instances became more transparent and this ethical problem allows to push them into transparency again
