I guess it could still happen, it's promising that they have left that in the app

I don't think the author articulated it well, but I took it to mean given that Threads had such a good first week, they may be reconsidering that they need to federate at all (skipping the first two E's in Embrace, Extend, Extinguish). After all, I doubt the average Threads user gives a shit about fedi
@BronzeAgeHogCranker Article was an interesting read, and I don't totally disagree. But it's obvious to me that ActivityPub is already integrated into the design of the application. They said it "wasn't finished" but they're lying. They have ActivityPub support already completely done and just got cold feet enabling it at launch.
casey is remote

> They have ActivityPub support already completely done

Wait is this true? Haven't seen anybody mention that.

@realcaseyrollins @BronzeAgeHogCranker It's just what I believe, based on the fact I built an ActivityPub server from scratch (Mostr bridge) with all the bells and whistles in 2 weeks. It's actually not that hard to do. I believe Meta is fully capable of it, and if they were planning to do it it would be done by now. Also, there are thoughtful design elements on the site geared towards federation. They've been planning this.
@alex @realcaseyrollins @BronzeAgeHogCranker This is probably to lean on larger instances, "if you want access to the Threads userbase you'll have to abide by our rules".
@monsterislandcolonizer @alex @realcaseyrollins @BronzeAgeHogCranker The filth wants control of the fedi. Embrace, extend, and extinguish.

All instances should block Threads, keep them all in their own little ghetto.
@alex @realcaseyrollins @BronzeAgeHogCranker Why do I feel that they will go on a massive instance-blocking spree before making federation available to their users?

@Fullycaffeinated @BronzeAgeHogCranker @alex I think they would be more inclined to run in whitelist-only mode with the instances they spoke to during the allegedly NDAed discussions, unfortunately

@realcaseyrollins @BronzeAgeHogCranker @alex Welp. guess they won't get to see my paintings and dodgy crochet or revel in tales of my messed-up cat. Their loss.
@alex @realcaseyrollins @BronzeAgeHogCranker That it's not particularly hard to implement is probably why they've done it. Chickenfeed for them to put a team on the job to integrate it into Threads. Just another gun in their arsenal should they ever want to use it. The questions you should be asking is how would it improve their advertising revenue, and would it be good politics to do it? Where 'politics' means, would it aid us in getting the kind of government in power that we want?
