AFAICT #Section230 defaults the internet to small, independent websites letting people post dumb shit. And that's great cause sometimes that stuff isn't actually dumb, it was just unlikely to be thought of or said, especially by the wealthy/powerful. It was low-key genius.

Without it, everybody would need to be a lot more careful. Kinda like what we see with overly cautious moderation here on this social network of small, independent websites. IMHO

@rebeccabellan @Gargron

this is true of federating with #threads too. they cannot tag us here yet. more hate speech there doesn't mean we will see it unless we follow those users. feeling icky shouldn't be enough reason to disconnect. if this were the sentiment in the 90s, we'd have a much different web today.

when/if they do fully federate, this will definitely be an issue if they go beyond just allowing shitty opinions to not policing their users who harass others. #fediblockmeta

fediblock question @ TBS

You know actually, I kinda can't move on from this really. I am genuinely apologetic for my behaviour here, and would like to address it without this post getting too long.

crimes committed:
- harassment
- ableism (I was using the r slur to put down others. I am apologetic for this. I am allowed to use the term though (autistic since birth, diagnosed by a psychologist), however, it doesn't make the use of the word here ok).
- channer memes (wojak is a channer meme, but it's not even that bad. I mean, pepe was turned into a white supremacy thing so it could be worse).

crimes not commited
- racism: where is the racism here? I am open to an explanation of the racism crimes I have commited, because I don't see it? I mean, I have even been blocked by this instance for racism, but shouldn't I have been blocked for harassment here? I know the fediblock was deserved, I am not debating that. I just don't see how I was being racist at any point here.

again, very apologetic of my actions. This is not a reflection of how I am now, nor will I be in the future. https://eldritch.cafe/@SharpLimefox/113749388876409867

thank you for any responses. I hope to hear back,

if I don't hear back or accused of racism without saying why? I'm sorry you feel that way.

It's like @mmasnick.bsky.social is slowly forgetting that actually decentralized social media exists. Moderation is different (and better) here. You can let them have their own servers and post anything and only moderate if they bother your users. I know that's different on services like #xitter #threads and #bluesky where letting anybody see it means you have to host it and possibly spread it with your algos. the open web has horrible pages most never see. #SocialWeb #fediblockmeta

can people be actually kicked off of #bluesky (not just added to mod lists etc)? who has been? where is the criteria listed, who decides and how is it done technically?

imo this shouldn't be possible on decentralized social media. horrible people posting evil shit should be able to start their own servers and it be up to everybody else whether to federate with them (and up to local legal entities re possible crimes and prosecution). like the rest of the internet. #SocialWeb #fediblockmeta

I really like the grouping of likes and boosts with the new Mastodon upgrade. It makes my notifications feed FAR less cluttered. Now if only we could get that full support for federated blocklists we can subscribe to officially built in rather than Ad-Hoc that would be amazing.

The blocklisting should be similar to PfBlockerNG on my Pfsense IMHO. docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/la

#threads is rolling out more fedi features today but people are screaming about moderation. I'd love to know what they are seeing that they hate so much. afaict there is no perfect solution but maybe we are the best, but that's less true the bigger any instance gets? I assume it's still much better there than on #xitter but maybe not. #fediblockmeta

#threads and #xitter are blocking links to the #VanceDossier. would any server on fedi do that? can we easily limit links here? or if accounts did link to it, would admins block those accounts or their server? if we had full federation with #meta, how would they treat a server here linking to it? I think that's clearly a horrible idea. everybody should have learned from the Biden laptop story. imo we should only moderate for harassment, not misinfo or bad opinions. #SocialWeb #fediblockmeta

The second receipt, and absolutely the harshest thing said by a tech.lgbt mod during this time is david saying he "[does] not care for" Ro, and that Ro "does not care for" tech.lgbt.

Again, this is tone of david's response to Ro accusing tech.lgbt of "poor moderation" and "hate speech".

Incredibly mild language, trying to make peace.

So I've gone through Ro's very long thread about tech.lgbt, and it does not contain any relevant evidence?

h-i.social/@are0h/113205968588

In September 2023, Ro added a new source to TheBad.Space, which had the effect of adding hundreds of new instances to TBS.

Each of these new instances was automatically tagged as "poor moderation" and "hate speech".

A lot of people criticized Ro for this, because he was in effect doing slander at scale against these 200-300 newly listed instances.

meta, Ro + Ra'il, misogyny, discourse about entitlement over womens bodies

Ro/Are0h and Ra'il are perfect examples of the way that men feel entitled to women's bodies.

Queer men are not exempt.

With Ro, and with Packetcat, you have two chasers who sexualize women's bodies. Ro's sexual fantasy for cross dressers coincides with his emotional attachment to discourse about trans women, and Packetcat doesn't even hide his comments on his main account where he asks various femmes if he can perform sex acts on them. The difference is Ro hides his fetish, and Packetcat does not hide it.

With Ra'il the entitlement may not be sexual, but the emotional entitlement is there all the same. He feels entitled to my photos, entitled to my accounts and to be able to witness the private moments with my family and friends that I choose not to disclose to him, entitled to comment on whether or not I actively post art for him to see. He feels entitled to my right to decide my name and feels entitled to decide that names reserved for those who have known me since pre-transition are for him to use too.

To Ra'il my body is his to pick apart and critique because as a woman I am not seen as having the right to my bodily or digital autonomy. Keep in mind, I don't go looking for the same — I have not stalked his personal accounts, I'm not picking apart his art or trying to find his friends and family, I'm not looking to post photos of him or to discuss moments which don't belong to me, because as much as I dislike him, those are his and I respect his autonomy and digital privacy outside of these accounts where I am made to be public discourse by him but I am not allowed to respond or criticize in turn.

I've long since stopped giving a shit what Ra'il says, or Ro or Packetcat for that matter. I am not interested in waging a 10 year war when we're all going to exist on this space regardless and I'm not interested in this back and forth online abuse for the sake of figuring out who's "right." We've all said our piece and our criticisms, it's time to move the fuck on.

You don't have to respect me as a person, I certainly don't respect yall. But that entitlement over women's bodies.... That's something deeply fucked up. If it isn't me, it'll be someone else. That is for you to unpack, but being the men that you are, as usual you offload that emotional labor onto women. It's fucking pathetic.

#fediblockmeta

Maybe it would be useful to have a hashtag that means "please stop tagging me immediately, I consider doing so anymore to be harassment. thanks". people could peruse that tag and related threads to see who the clearly bad actors are (those who tagged them again) but also have transparency into how these conflicts develop. not an alternative to anything we are doing now but a way to get insight into moderation focused on obvious harassment vs unpopular speech. #fediblockmeta

I like a lot of this. Harassment should be maybe the only reason for moderation. My main disagreement is that the fedi is a public space where you don't have to hear anybody, unless they tag you. If they don't tag anybody or use any hashtags, they should be able to say anything. If they do use a hashtag or tag you with something obviously antagonistic, that's harassment. If they tag you with anything after you asked them to stop, that's harassment. #fediblockmeta
