For #FungiFriday I have a fungus with a face known as a Northern Red Belt (Fomitopsis mounceae).

Barred owl (Strix varia) after it gulped the mole. What a beautiful bird that I had the privilege to photograph this morning.
I started to track owls in this forest in January because it is easier to spot them in the absence of foliage on deciduous trees. I heard them many times, particularly during the mating period.
Now hoping to photograph the owlets in a few weeks.

Mature male Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) on the coast of Vancouver Island. Adult males are 2.7 to 3.1 m and weigh 400 to 800 kg. I am amazed how they are able to crawl on rocky cliffs given their huge weight.

For #FrogFriday this is the first photo I took of a red-legged frog (Rana aurora aurora) when I moved to Vancouver Island. It looks like a masked bandit lurking in the forest.

I know that many of you have been wondering for a very long time how the bottom of a hummingbird looks like, so I am honoured to provide an answer with this photo: it is beige.

For #InternationalBeaverDay I don't have a photo of a beaver but one with signs of the little engineer. I hope it counts!

Today is #InternationalBearDay They are one of my favourite subjects to photograph because of their different character as you can see in these photos. I enjoy capturing the lives of both black bears and grizzlies.
I took these photos on Vancouver Island with a telephoto lens and a respectful distance. Find these photos and more in my book Wild Vancouver Island.

For #WaterfallWednesday I have this photo taken last week when I was mentoring the 16 year old student from Surrey. This creek is completely dry in the summer. The best time to photograph it is now. It is located in a place known as Xwee Xwhya Luq by the K'ómoks people, in what is called today Courtenay.

We interrupt your regular program for a photo of the current situation on Vancouver Island where the moss has taken over the trails and trees. Feel free to close your eyes and imagine that you are walking barefoot on cushiony moss.
