Checking , the numbers for + don't look great. Combined they make up for 1.1% of software distribution on the , and usage seems to be declining across all metrics, including active users, instances, and users per instance.

@realcaseyrollins probably has to do with all the people participating in wrong think that are associated with pleroma #itsalwayspleroma

@thatguyoverthere TBH I disagree. Something is causing people to be losing interest in and , and I don't think it's .

@realcaseyrollins maybe. I don't know. I haven't really looked at akkoma.
@realcaseyrollins ah I read that wrong... you are saying you DON'T think it's akkoma.. I really don't know what the kids are into these days.

@thatguyoverthere Yes what I meant was I don't think is detracting from the + userbase to the point where it's contributing to these declining numbers

Of the few people who know about the Fediverse, most of them still don’t know anything beyond Mastodon. So for them the whole thing is just Mastodon. It’s essentially a brand name at this point like Jacuzzi.

The other factor is that most people who stay here fall into 2 major camps:

1. Big social censors too much
2. Big social doesn’t censor enough.

It is my contention that the 2nd is the larger group….by a lot. Those folks tend to be on Mastodon instances. Folks using Pleroma and especially Rebased are more aligned to the 1st group. People in the 2nd group are block happy and will block entire domains for the slightest disagreement. Thus the great divide here. There are instances in the 2nd group who will block you simply because you run Rebased or even because you won’t block instances running it. Yes, it’s that stupid out there. But that will have an effect on the adoption rate.

And it’s a shame because the Pleroma/Rebased is actually really good software. But people can’t see past the idea that other people have opinions that don’t match theirs (or the ones they’ve been told to have).
You can’t make something up with this much irony if you tried:
