Nvidia expects a $5.5 billion hit for exporting H20 processors to China.

The US government told Nvidia on April 9th that the company would need a license to export its H20 AI chip to China, Reuters and CNBC report.

The charges are “associated with H20 products for inventory, purchase commitments, and related reserves,” according to an Nvidia SEC filing.

Tariff uncertainty continues.

Semiconductor tariffs could be on the way, The New York Times reports:

Federal notices put online Monday afternoon said the administration had initiated national security investigations into imports of chips and pharmaceuticals. Mr. Trump has suggested that those investigations could result in tariffs.

And a group of five US businesses argued in a lawsuit reported on by CNN that the Trump administration’s tariffs should be declared illegal.

The FTC is opening a public inquiry into competition regulations.

Specifically, “into the impact of federal regulations on competition, with the goal of identifying and reducing anticompetitive regulatory barriers,” according to a press release. Members of the public can submit comment about how “federal regulations can harm competition in the American economy.”
